All I knew about Image Comics’ Reed Gunther #7 was that the hero of the story rode on a bear and that this issue advertised itself as a one-shot. It seemed like as good a time as any to pick up an issue.
On page two I became stuck on one panel, it just had me laughing. Even now when I look back I just start cracking up. Creators Shane and Chris Hougton had me doing this on just about every page. Reed Gunther and his bear, Sterling, have a chemistry that makes even the smallest nuance on the page stand out. It is the characters of this western world that make this book so enjoyable. I am unsure if this series usually has longer arcs, but this one-shot tells a fairly simple tale with a twist that all ages can enjoy, and the creators make sure you know all ages means everyone from eight to eighty.
No matter how much we all love comics I’m sure we’ve all had weeks when reading them felt like a chore, like if we don’t get to a book how can we know what’s going on in a universe. Then come these times when I read something like Reed Gunther #7 and I am reminded of how much fun it is to sit down and read my books.
