I am still buying this because I am a hardcore Green Lantern fan, but this title is easily the weakest of the Green Lantern titles currently. I despise these forced crossovers DC started doing a few months back. At least the New Guardians-Blue Beetle crossover was mostly Lantern-centric, so it didn't really matter. This one throws in the Stormwatch crew for virtually no reason. Literally Atrocitus just stumbles into their headquarters.
One page had a great Dex Starr-Midnighter moment, but the next page had Atrocitus turned into a walking robot of rage, with no nuance or complexity. The fact that the Stormwatch group kept mentioning the rage they were "detecting" and how they could easily see his rage was off the charts was just stupidity. In a fight, I would never think to say, boy, I have never seen someone with such rage!
I care even less about the Jack Moore storyline. We know so little about him that I have a hard time connecting to him as a character. And every time someone calls him "Rankorr" or he feels himself becoming "Rankorr," it instantly takes me out of the story. What kind of serious character would take up such a silly moniker and apparently just out of thin air?
I didn't much care for Ed Benes' art, but Miguel Sepulveda is not much of an improvement. While I disagree with those that say all the Lantern titles aren't very good currently, I will agree that the brand is getting overexposed. DC could stand to cut back.

Thank God someone agrees with me about the Red Lantern book. I’m also a diehard Lantern fan, and I feel a strong sense of loyalty to all the Lantern books in the New 52. If I had to rank them in order, it would be GLC, GLNG, and tied for third place is GL and RL. RL, however, is definitely testing my loyalties. This book is going nowhere, not fast, but slowly and painfully.
What, oh what, oh WHAT was the point of Stormwatch being in this issue?! As far as I’m concerned, this cheapened Stormwatch in much the same way that Batwing was cheapened by putting him in JLI. But I digress. Yes, the scene with Midnighter punching Dex Star was cute, but come on, Midnighter punching a cat? Really?!
And as for Atrocitus, there was an excellent opportunity to explore the pain of the character instead of endless “Atrocitus smash!” scenes. We get it. He’s full of rage. I would think that him tearing your ship apart would be a good first clue!
When Rankorr was first introduced, I thought finally we’re going somewhere. I was interested to see the character become and RL, but they took too long to get us there, and unfortunately he’s become background noise all too quickly and needlessly. A human RL has enormous possibilities and they’ve dropped the ball.
Great review, Robby! After the first few months, my pull list went from the New 52 down to the New 42. I’m afraid it’s about to become the New 41.
You don’t like Benes or Sepulvdea? Picky.
Maybe you just shouldn’t read this instead of hoping it gets cancelled.
