Another space epic begins for me to devour! Starlin again shows he is the master of this genre as he lays the foundation for this series. In this issue we are introduced to all the main characters and given a glimpse at their motivations. The two religions that form the basis of the conflict are developed as well. It was great to see Hawkman in a featured role again, and the scene where Comet gives his lecture to the JLA is awesome. Starlin really captures the essence of each character, even if it is only a two page scene. No major events happen until the cliffhanger, but all of the groundwork is laid.

The art is great, and Ron Lim is another name that is associated with cosmic epics. He was the artist of the Infinity trilogy at Marvel, and now he reteams with Starlin to do a epic for DC. I loved his spread that introduced Bizarro in the story. A great first issue that introduces the cast and lays the foundation for the Holy War to begin.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
