After reading issue 24, I am more excited to see the next issue of Power Girl than I have been in a while. Winick does a good job of introducing the antagonist and giving us an understanding of his motivations and the reasons why does what he does. It helps to get you more emotionally involved than if he was just some schlep waiting in line to rob a bank and get a power-spanking from the heroes.

Winick also does a good job of expanding on Power Girl’s new identity, and shows us that how she acts quite differently when in and out of character. This also helps to continue her development as a personality in the DC universe beyond being just a transport system for a big set of tits. I am a bit disappointed that there wasn’t much action in this issue, but considering the character development going on and how this issue sets up for the next, I’ll live.

The most interesting thing about this issue for me is that they got all sneaky and switched out the artist and colorist from Basri with Kholinne to Prasetyo and Gho. Earlier in the week it was stated that Prasetyo would be taking over at issue 27, but they might not have wanted to give the reactionists a chance to jump ship before seeing what he could do.

I am VERY happy with the artwork change. While the style is very similar, and if you’re not looking for it you might even miss it, what I see is more detail and female faces that i can actually tell apart from one another. Gho also matches Prasetyo’s artwork better than Kholinne did with Basri. Previously, the colors seemed too cartoony, with severe gradients, while Gho has a muted color palette and blends more.

The new artwork just seems to better match the story Winick is telling. The secret identity eyebrow problem is also pushed to the background, as they are now drawn so that we don’t have to see if Power Girl is dyeing them red when she puts on her wig. The only thing that could make me happier with the artwork is if Humberto Ramos took over, but that’s just because I wish he drew every comic (except Chew).
