How can one man make something so compelling and fresh? I can’t answer this question but Ken Garing is showing that one man can do a lot. With this third issue Garing pushes us further into his world by showing us the growth and development of the new community Silas finds himself in charge of. Through well-paced and interesting story beats and the addition of some new, wonderfully imaginative sci-fi elements, we get to explore his world for seventy days. We gain a little hope in a landscape that has seemed so harsh thus far, that is until the carpet is pulled out from under us. With a final page reveal we find ourselves in a darker place then we started, but a place that is far to fascinating to look away. With Saga out there I didn’t think I would need another sci-fi fix, Garing has made it clear I was wrong.
