It’s a mini-anthology that picks ups threads from the POTA ongoing and the two minis. They’re short stories, but NOT throwaways.

“First and Last Days” – ties in with the POTA ongoing that just ended. It tells a neat back story that fills in some blanks about Nix. The school integration angle worked well.

I didn’t really dig “A Boy and His Human.” A little too easy, plus I hated the art style.

“Old New World” — Jeff Parker’s story was great. It reminded me of reading a short story out of one of the great Sci-Fi anthology monthlys from the 60s and 70s. The “twist” was a real surprise — although hard to explain in the POTA continuity.

“The Scroll” – Gabriel Hardman’s. My favorite of the annual. Great moody kinetic art. Tells how Aleron lost his eye…if you know who that is.

Next to Batman, the best Annual I’ve read this year.

Can’t wait for Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm coming this fall.
