PHANTOM LADY is reasonably promising, though it feels very unpolished. Not artistically, necessarily – the art looks fine, though it’s not my favorite. It doesn’t really take any chances.

The lack of polish is evident in the writing – from a bit too much “let me tell you one by one about my powers as if you’re five years old” to – for real – a caption box that reads “Six Month’s Earlier.” Now I’ll admit that using an apostrophe to make something plural (which is wrong) is one of my all time greatest pet peeves, but seriously, what’s editorial doing if they can’t catch that kind of thing in a big yellow box at the top of a page?

This issue is largely setup, and fine for what it is. I’m mildly engaged by the characters and happy to get a glimpse of a vigilante working a bit more street level in Metropolis instead of Gotham. I’ll probably follow along into next issue at least, though that may depend on what else I’m pulling that week.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
