Pax Romana. Peace for Rome. Maybe Rest in Peace. I can still remember, a year ago, when I read issue one. I thought this was possibly the best idea for a story I have ever heard. An epic novel could be weaved out of the story. Four issues seemed far to few to do justice to the story but I could not wait to see where the story went.

I was wrong. I could wait, and wait, and wait. I know this is one of my pet peeves, books that don’t publish regularly but I have to say it damaged the story in this case. Especially when it is so text heavy and you have to identify who is saying what by the abbreviations in the transcript. Keeping the images straight is hard enough remembering the character names is even worse.

All that said. This was a good book. The final line… Blew my mind.

I’m going to go back and find the first three books to read it all at one sitting. Maybe then it will be a great book. We will see. The art is like nothing else I am reading and while not traditional it is wonderful and advances the story. The story is much more text heavy then most other books. But reads quickly. The ability to keep the story straight is over a period of time is the problem. Maybe that is just my problem but there have been a whole lot of books over the months between issues.

Advice for Hickman limited series? Wait for the trade.

Issue 1 12/07; Issue 2 3/08; Issue 3 9/08; Issue 4 11/08.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
