This book has a really optimistic premise. Let’s start with “science as pop culture”. In this concept, we have a winner!! For those of *us* about to inherit the earth, this is one book that needs to get out there in the mainstream!!!

As for the story itself: lots of ideas are developing immediately — from page #1. Yet, none of it feels forced in any way. This is in contrast to a lot of #1 issues. Other books are driven by concerns that the audience will either be bored by the set-up, or will be confused by all the nuttiness of trying to cram a year’s worth of pizazz into one issue. This story fits right in the middle there somewhere.

The art is a bit common, but good enough, I suppose… for now. If the story falls off, though, I know I’ll be more critical of the art as an excuse to narrow my investment by one more title.

Let’s hope for the best…?

Optimistic 5’s? Not quite yet…

  1. 4 issues in, the first is still my favorite. It just hit that sweet spot with energy, the characters, the ideas that the other 3 seem to be struggling to catch up to. The quality of the writing hasn’t changed really, it just seems to be missing that magic that made me love #1. I’m still very committed to the series for now tho.
