While I’ve been enjoying the current story arch with its nods to the comics of yore, I found myself slowly losing interest in the story line. I can’t really place why, but it probably had something to do with the tonal shift that the book experienced after War of Kings. Whatever the case, I can safely say that this was a fantastic issue, and brings Nova back to form. This issue was an absolute blast from the big, dynamic action to the mind bending shifts in the space time continuum. I felt that the characterization was perfect for all of the major players involved, and Nova really looked like a badass in the issue. I know this all may seem a bit vague, but I would hate to spoil anything in this issue, particularly for people who have been on the fence about the book.
The last thing I would like to mention is that I’m ecstatic to see that Mahmud Asrar doing the art duties on this book. Asrar is best known as being co-creator of the Dynamo 5, and while his art is not as sharp as it was on that book, I’m really glad to see him on a mainstream title. Hopefully this is a sign that we’ll see more of him on this book or another project so that all of comicdom can see just how good he can be.
Art: 4 - Very Good
