I want to be able to say that this story keeps getting better and better, but that would be such a cruel thing to say, because for Hilda (the main character of this current story arc), the situation just keeps getting worse and worse!!  Talk about a string of bad luck!!

It real bothers me that there aren’t enough people out there reading Vertigo’s stuff.  They can spend nearly 50 dollars a week to read the same superhero stuff over and over just rearranged and remixed a little, but a real human tradgedy piece like The Plague Widow can just fall right through their fingers and into the pile of papers that goes right to the curb for the recycling crew to pick up like it were junk mail or a notice from a debt collector.  It can be a real shame.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been a couple of arcs that had me falling asleep on my issue and drooling all over the eighth page, so I can see why some might be slightly reducdant as to give Northlanders another shot, but if you are as sick of The Gauntlet as I am, and feel as if there might just be a bit TOO MANY Bat-books that really need reading, then The Plague Widow is a perfect arc to stretch those ‘time to try something else’ legs of your’s.

Anyway, there are only two more installments to go, so you might as well just wait for the trade.  Trust me.  It will be 14 dollars and 99 cents well spent, especially considering we pay $10 a month to keep up on The Gauntlet over in Marvel-land, and God knows how much green to keep up with everything that’s going on with Blackest Night for us DC fanboys.  The Plague has just as much DEATH packed in as Blackest Night at nearly a fraction of the cost, and it’s interesting too!!

Hell, it is kind of like getting a history lesson too.  Maybe you should take it to your history teacher and see just how accurate it really is.  It has gotta have more accuracy than the first season of The Tudors regardless.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
