Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly, is there a better creative team in comics right now? Northlanders has been great from the start but this has been the weakest story arc. Not bad but just not as great as the previous two but this issue was the tuning point. By far the best of the story line. The two title panels with pure white backgrounds are amazing. The art in this book has been consistantly great and this issue might be my favorite so far. From the opening battle scene, to the title pages, to the one panel pages showing off the Irish country side this book was beautiful. The one thing this story arc is lacking is motivation behind the main character's actions. I understand that the Norse are invaders but I need something more than I'm Irish and you're not to justify all the killing that has happened in the past four issues. I really like the juxtaposition of the large battle that obviously involves hundreds of people with the small party searching for one man. It is an interesting take on the importance of the needs of one over the needs of many. The Norse king is clearly concerned about the battle, how could he not be, but the "detective's" letters to the king seem to imply the king takes the hunt for this one killer very seriously. Hopefully in the last two issues we will find out why.
