I wasn’t sure what to expect from Nate Simpson’s “Nonplayer”, but Brandon Graham recommend it, and he has yet to lead me wrong.

This fist issue set up a world that has elements similar to that of Bandai “(Dot)Hack//” series and Greg Pak’s “Vision Machine”.

We spend time fallowing Dana Lee in her game Avatar to a Fantasy World, but what is a interesting twist, is that the game’s NPCs seem to have their own individual life’s unaware they are program. This plot idea is a great hook that makes me want to see more.

Plus Simpson is no slouch when it comes to art. Beautiful backgrounds and figure work, with a nice coloring style to it. My only complain with is this book, was small panels that gave a cramped/clustered look during the big battle in this issue. This was only a problem, because I got lost in what was going on at some points. Then again, that how battles tend to be, right.

Still great first issue worth picking up.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
