So I actually picked up #0 on a whim this summer, before really starting to get into comics… it was in fact one of my first single issue purchases (I had been confined to some well-known trades up to that point).  I was intrigued, and picked up #1 when it came out as a way to start my new foray into monthly comics.  I have to say, 0 & 1 left me thinking… eh.  #1 just didn’t move anywhere for me… but now, I see it for what it was: exposition.  This issue, after some exposition in #1, rocked my world.  Amazing.  I am 100% on board now, and absolutely cannot wait for the next issue.  That double splash? The final splash?  Good lord was this issue worth sticking around for.

The only drawback for me is the art… it’s exceptionally detailed, and Ryp is a great artist, but it’s just not quite my style.  There’s almost… too much detail.  For me, it seems to transform the panels into something less clean, and I think you can be detailed and clean at the same time.  In fact, I’d say that was the reason I was apprehensive after 0 & 1.  However, the story in this issue finally cemented it for me.  Oh, and the wrap?  Hmm, almost seems to play into the next issue.  If you’ve checked out either of 0 or 1 and weren’t sure, PLEASE pick up this one.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good
