I’m not sure what to think of this issue. I picked it up because the solicit sounded interesting and because I’ve generally liked Brian Wood, however, I’d never read the first mini-series to this. Maybe thats why I didn’t quite get all that much enjoyment out of the book. It did do a good job of recaping what had already happened, but I still feel that I would have gotten it better if I’d read the first. I’m not saying that I didn’t like the book, it’s just that I couldn’t quite connect with the characters. I was kind of neutral on the art personally. There was some of it that I really liked and then there was other pages that I didn’t think were quite as good. All around kind of an average book for me, not sure if I’m going to go any farther with the series, although I might pick up the first trade if I can find it.

  1. Haven’t read this yet, but I think it’s possible that this is one of those books you need to read the original of.  It’s not so much the plotlines as it is the characters, and I wonder if this first issue kind of assumes that you’ve made that connection to the characters through reading book one.

  2. Yeah I agree. I think that I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had been familiar with the characters and understood them better.
