Please bear with me, as this is the first review I've written in some time. I'm so use to reading them off teleprompters, plus it's around 5 am when I'm starting this.
Anyway...due to not having a proper LCS when I moved from one part of Florida to the other, I was on a comic hiatus. Last time I was reading Secret Invasions and a Crisis were yet to be final. Like Josh, my love for Hawkeye probably knows no bounds, so this series was one of the first things I grabbed when coming back. It ended up being instant crack for me.
This finale did it for me. I went through the motions while reading this, most of them were big smiles. You want action/cat fighting? Check. Witty banter and good pacing? Check. Great show of why Clint and Bobbi are a great couple? Double check! Jim McCann wrote the hell out of this, in my opinion. As a fan of the spy genre and a sucker for a love story, he accomplished leaving me wanting more. He even had time to crack jokes at their no dating, just married thing that I use to wonder about. The build up of this issue (and actually this series) was done so well that when it came to a head with the couple's kiss, I almost let out an audible cheer.
On the art side, I was also thoroughly impressed. The art by David and Alvaro Lopez, who I don't recall seeing their work before, just popped! It wasn't absolutely perfect, I guess, but I think that might have been a coloring thing for me. Something that I noticed that I'm paying more attention to with comic age is lettering, and Dave Lanpherr should be commended. It just fit Clint, to me, and made every word flow and seem exciting.
If you missed out on this, then do yourself a favor and pick this series up. I can recommend this easily to Hawkeye fans easily, but espoinage/romance fans would be remiss to skip it. I might even be bold to say if you like fun and good storytelling, then grab it. For everything I missed a few months back, it looks like I came back in the nick of time.
