For this being the final numbered issue of the series, it seems as though the New Avengers went out with a whimper not a bang. For the last six years this has arguably been Marvel's flagship book, making the Avengers a major franchise in the Marvel Universe. Although the quality of Bendis' writing has not been pitch perfect every issue, it was mostly a consistent four and five star book in my opinion, not to mention a title I looked forward to every month. Having all this in mind I was disappointed in this issue. My first complaint is that the Avengers were barely in it, it was mainly a Hood story. The second is the spoiler partially revealing the end of Siege; Loki supercharges the Avengers by stealing power from the Hood's gang. This does however make me eager to see how Siege ends. I really like Mike McKone's art but I was disappointed that Stuart Immonen was not there instead. With Siege #4 and the New Avengers Finale remaining I hope Bendis is able to summon up a satisfying ending to cap off the last six years which have been both fun and exciting; a breath of fresh air and innovation for the Avengers.
