The Battle of 2 Books!

I started to pick this book back up with Avengers: 1959. I liked the concept and the art sold me.  So, I guess that makes Ron and I, the only ones who would pick up a series with that title.  That being said, I love EVERYTHING about this part of the story.  The story, the art, this would have been easily Pick of the Week. But, it is only half the book.

The New Avengers part… well. Not bad. I found myself needing a break from them shortly after the reboot.  Not that it was not great, but felt the same fatigue I had with Green Lantern, just needed to put it down and come back.  That being said, this issue actually got my back into the main story line.  Ms. Marvel getting beat by a C-Class hero and her actually talking about?  Superia is like the new Hood and it is a lesser known but Bendis can take them to the main stage and make them matter. Victoria Hand is now someone I want to know more about. Mockingbird “dying” is not thrilling, but I got sucked in by the response of Hawkeye and the fact that 3 of the big time Avengers were powerless to help.  This works and I really loved the art in this section too.

So why is this a 4 Star Issue and Not a 5?  Because the break up of the stories bother me.  It feels like Bendis wanted to do Avengers 1959 and they said no and went and did it anyways and shoved it into the New Avengers, while still writing a New Avengers story.  It just made it too choppy and at this point, it looks like no clear intersection for the stories.  It is jarring going back and forth.

But the choppiness of it all makes it from being that WOW issue. Overall 4/5
