I tend to shy away from vampire fiction, but I wanted to see if DC’s NATIONAL COMICS line could follow up the immensely strong start of KID ETERNITY. LOOKER is the story – or, at least, a story – of Emily Briggs, a former supermodel forced into retirement when she became a vampire and ceased showing up on film. (The cover gives that much away in grand form, I think.)

The full-length story establishes a cast of likable characters while still serving up a decent little paranormal mystery story. Emily is a solid narrator, a character who doesn’t like what she was and may not like what she’s become.

Like with KID ETERNITY, I’d buy more LOOKER stuff, no questions asked. NATIONAL COMICS continues to be DC’s most worthwhile experiment.
