If you were a fan of the original mini-series from back in 2010, then this will be right up your alley. Steve Niles picks up right where he left off stylistically, with a breezy, tongue-in-cheek look at the same characters. The story itself is a “one and done” musing, which unfortunately exacerbates the thinness of the plot, forcing the story to devote no time building any real tension. If you didn’t care much about the characters before, then this story won’t do much to fix that. It also suffers, of course, from not having Fiona Staples’ artwork (though if it means keeping her on Saga, then I would just assume IDW hires a third grader to do the art for Mystery Society). Though I seem to not be giving it a strong thumbs up here, I like the lightness and forgettable quality here. Assuming Niles puts out any other issues, I’m sure I will be picking them up as well.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average
