Speaking from the perspective of a fan this issue was pretty much everything you’d want out of a Friendship is Magic story. The characters, the color, the humor all feel just like the TV show. I did, however, wonder if picking up from last season’s finale and dropping so many character names won’t distance new readers a bit. Otherwise it was a fast-paced, fun, truly all-ages read. And the art. I must talk about this. I was at first a little off-put by the style, but I think the storytelling speaks for itself. This is first-class cartooning. The art is clearly based around the animated style, but not beholden as to make the art suffer. This is a great first issue and I eagerly anticipate issue two. Between Turtles, Transformers, GI Joe and now My Little Pony I think IDW has become an unstoppable nostalgia machine.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
