For the past year I’ve been befuddled and confused by Ms. Marvel. This hasn’t always been a bad thing, but it can only go on so long before it gets annoying. We had an out-of-time story about Carol and her dad that had promise but was a bit rushed, then a back-in-time story about Carol in her pre-super days that was pretty good. And then Carol was unceremoniously killed off and no one seemed to notice. (Especially not BMB who kept writing her into New Avengers.)

And we were supposed to believe that Karla Sofen was our new protagonist. Did anyone buying this title believe that? Now we’ve got Karla, Ms. Marvel, and a separate Carol Danvers, who’s not named Carol Danvers. I mean, really? Really?

This is just so sad, because there was a time when I would have defended Ms. Marvel to anyone who would listen. It’s not what it looks like on the cover, I would say, it’s actually a really good character study. And then it was a great team book. And now it’s just been shit for months. And yes, the promise of it getting better has been there month after month, but it never materializes.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I subscribe to this title (hence the late review), I would have dropped it months ago. As it is, it takes less energy to let it keep coming to me in the mail than it does to call and have them stop sending it. And this title inspires nothing, if not apathy.

On the plus side, Sana Tekada’s art is very pretty.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 3 - Good
