After three issues of lead up to Secret Invasion, Ms. Marvel finally catches up to the miniseries and has Ms. Marvel in the thick of the Skrull Invasion. Per orders from Iron Man, she returned to New York, where she found the Skrulls attacking, so she fights them.
That's it. Ms. Marvel vs. Skrulls. Nothing much else really happens. However, that doesn't really do service to how good of an issue this is. Brian Reed does a great job with characterization of both Ms. Marvel and the Skrulls she is fighting. For example, one of the Skrulls changes into a human as Carol is ready to strike and she hesitates, sensing that, the other skrulls all follow suit and use their shape-changing to their advantage. However, Carol, soldier that she is, figures out a very smart way to determine which are Skrulls.
The art by Adriana Melo is beautiful. It's a great cartoony style that I really like and is fun to look at.
I just started reading Ms. Marvel because of Secret Invasion, but after this issue, I think I'm going to seek out the trades.
Art: 5 - Excellent
