Moon Knight is in the middle of an identity crisis and Marvel doesn’t know quite what to do about it.  He’s got such great potential as a character but he’s not really been good since Moench and Sienkiewicz worked on him lo all these many years ago.  Sure, he’s a Batman analog, but there’s nothing wrong with that.  There’s really no need for this “like Batman, except crazier” phase they’ve got him in.

Nevertheless, MK Silent Knight is a good stand-alone story that has the feel of a good Bendis or Brubaker tale.  Milligan’s story and dialogue are compelling, but the real surprise here is the art by Laurence Campbell, whose work I’m not familiar with and whose past credits I’m unwilling to look up at this time.  Fans of Sean Phillips and Michael Lark will find Campbell’s stuff easy on the eyes.

If you’re like me and you like your Christmas stories tinged with a little violence, check this out.

Story: 3 - Good

  1. Thank you for reviewing this!

  2. Agreed. This was actually really good. I gave it four stars and it was one of the better books in my stack. While I think the current Moon Knight series has been really good, I do think it’s time to pull the character further upstairs somewhat.

  3. further upstairs?

  4. i really enjoyed the Charlie Huston run on this and it’s kinda been lacking as of late. totally agree that this was on the level of issue from bendis’ daredevil run. really fucking good.
