I read Monocyte and I was not surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I have been super busy lately and finally made it to the shop after a month. Of course Monocyte was the first book I read.Then I read the finale of All Nighter and thought, man why can’t mainstream comics do this?!?

Call it what you may, creator owned raises the stakes. These creators HAVE to bring it. You don’t know who Monocyte is and his world is only oddly familiar.

Now Monocyte is not for everybody. It is for those who like art and have an open mind, I mean really open like Metaphysics open. Most comics don’t demand that you occupy your mind so much.

The world is a bit of a challenge. Immortals do not talk good like us humans but their language is fitting. I appreciate the ambitiousness of the project but feel a bit lost in the middle of an ocean. I am sure this is one of those books that can only reveal themselves slowly and all at once at the same time.

My favorite thing about Monocyte is that the creators were willing to share “their” world with other creators for two mini-stories in the back. Riley Rosmo and David Stoupakis are excellent additions. I wish more writers were willing to share.

Fables and Walking Dead would benefit from this, especially since their books are lacking in cultural diversification.

You should read Monocyte. why? because it is truly different. You may love it or hate it, but you will definitely not say that you have seen this done before. In the spirit of ambition, there will also soon be a soundtrack to it in December.
