In which I compare inequalities between talented books to sales

This is a sobering reminder of what the Avengers would have been if Bendis didn’t take over the books.
Fantastic Four
keep getting amazingly talented creators and their book never sells,
while this book wavers between decent to mediocre to sucky under
Slott’s direction and, because of the relative strength of the other
titles, still sells well.

The main story with the Inhuman King is
unengaging to put it nicely. Blindingly mind numbingly boring to be
blunt. As much as Abnett and Lanning have made me care about them in
space, their history is as interesting as a block of wood.

Having a
cliche heroes fight and then team up only underlines how few ideas are
being brought to this story. The Scarlet Witch story was necessary
eventually, but felt tedious.

I’m not liking the art. It just doesn’t fit with the story. This book feels like it wants to be Morrison’s JLA run, all shiny and big. The art makes it look like Punisher in a back alley.

The only little
thing in this book that I liked was Hercules busting Cho’s balls about
Valeria beating him. I really need to cut this book from my pull list

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 2 - Average

  1. I think i like this a little more than you do but I see your point.  This is not Slott’s best work.  I still kind of like it because of Herc, Cho and Quicksilver. I’ve also thought what Slott has done with Pym is interesting.  Pham art is average but I liked Sandoval’s art last issue.  I am disappointed that with Slott plotting and Gage scripted this isn’t as good as it should be.  I was expecting something as great as the Avengers Initiative.  I’m digging the Unspoken plot more than the Wanda/Loki one.
