First things first - forget the Marvel promo. This ish is not about Skrull Captain Marvel. Rather, it tells a fascinating story. It describes how the Skrull Criti Noll becomes the human Hank Pym. More importantly, it shows that the Skrulls who are impersonating critical human heroes may take on some of the characteristics of those heroes.
Here, the Skrull Pym tries to convince the Skrull Dugan that the Secret Invasion is a mistake, as the war will not be winnable. It is an interesting tale, as ersatz Dugan tries to convince Skrull Pym that his views are compromised by having taken the role of Hank Pym. I think that Bendis wants us to belive this - Skrull Pym develops a taste for coffee cut with hot chocolate, which is something that comes from the Hank Pym part of his personality rather than the Skrull part. Alas, as we know, Skrull Pym is unable to convince the Skrull conspirators to abandon their plans. Rather, he is ultimately taken to a re-education camp of sorts, to resume his role as Pym.
I wonder whether this will not be a critical plot point. Perhaps faking Hank Pym is too difficult, and Criti Noll will eventually break ranks in future SI books. In any case, this book was a really strong case study.
On the other hand, the art was not to my tastes. I just don't like this scribbly style. Sorry, Mr. Pham.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
Art: 2 - Average
I enjoyed the story as well, even though it seemed pretty slow for the first half. The art did make me cringe a bit at the beginning, but got better as it went on. Because I have faith in Pham, I would have given it a 3 for benefit of the doubt.
i have really been enjoying the new avengers/mighty avengers si issues, and this is another solid issue filling in the invasion back story. the only problem i am beginning to have with them is that given the main series is moving a bit slowly, and all of these main tie ins are taking place prior to the main book i am getting a little tired of waiting for things to move forward – hopefully soon.
I know the skrulls had the same name but I thought the Skrull Pym Tratior was killed and replaced by a new skrull. Dugan says at one point something about there having been a couple of Pyms before this one. I would be interested in hearing what other people thought and how they interpert Dugan’s comment.
@All4ninjas – I am not sure. I think that it would be rather ridiculous for Skrulls to have exactly the same name, but perhaps that is my Earth (non-George Forman) bias. I interpreted things to mean that this Skrull has a special ability to play Pym, but that he requires frequent re-education.
Uhhh, maybe I misread this, but I’m pretty sure Criti Noll was fried in this issue and replaced with another Pym agent. Didn’t they even say that he wasn’t the first. So, this begs the question, are the Skrull-Pyms breaking down because Pym’s personality is so strong and heroic, or so flawed and self-defeating?
