In our Mighty vs. Irredeemable evil Superman-off, I continue to give the crown to The Mighty. Both writers are doing a magnificent job of peeling back the mysteries surrounding their featured super-psychopath, giving us just enough tidbits to keeping us coming back again and again. However only  The Mighty has managed to set a tone of such tension and dread. I know someday I am going to turn the page and Alpha-1 will be smashing through my bathroom door with an axe and an insane smile on his face. And I will wet myself. I also give the edge in artwork to Chris Samnee (who replaced Peter Snejbjerg after issue 4), who is doing some beautiful, understated work.

Of course there is no reason to have to choose, both books are excellent. To be honest, the pacing of The Mighty is likely to irritate the more impatient among us and for those folks it might read quite a bit better in trade. However, if you need one more reason to pick up The Mighty in issues here it is: While Irredeemable is clearly a success for small publisher Boom, The Mighty lies down in the bottom of the sales figures at DC. You can’t wait for the awesome trade if the book gets canceled altogether. So buy it and live in fear of page turning. That is a good thing.
