Licensed comics have it hard. Not only do you have to create a good comic, but you’ve got to create a good comic based on an already existing product. And when your license is a classic video game like the Classic Megaman series, you’ve got your work cut out for you. And yet with issue 5, writer Ian Flynn really begins to shine on this book.

It should be no surprise to anyone familiar with Mr. Flynn’s run on Sonic the Hedgehog, another title he’s really shining on. Still, the first four issues of this series had a rather rushed feeling to them. Now, however, that rush has payed off. Mr. Flynn is playing with the toys he so eagerly set up and it’s really making for a fun interesting read. This is a man having fun playing in this world and the loose stories of the classic Megaman really leaves some room for creativity on the writer’s part.

The artist for this story arc, Chad Thomas, also pulls his weight on this issue. While his art isn’t as on-model as previous artist Patrick Spaziante, it actually makes for a nicer, more fluid look.

If you want a little bit of 8-bit nostalgia in your life, or even if you want to introduce a son, nephew, or young cousin to a gaming staple of your own childhood, give this title a shot; you won’t be disappointed!
