While I’m fairly sure I read The Marvelous Land of Oz when I was younger, I don’t remember the story, so it seems very fresh to me.  Shanower has such a fantastic grasp on the language of Baum’s characters.  In particular, the translation scene between Pumpkinhead and Scarecrow.  It’s a shame Skottie Young’s art is so terrible.  And that the world is flat.  And that penguins can’t swim.  Wait, none of those last three statements were true.
