This is my very first review for ifanboy! I feel compelled to express enormous love for Mark Millar’s and Tommy Lee Edwards 1985. This series, which chronicles marvels greatest rogues laying waste to a small American town in the ‘real world’, really managed to capture feelings I had as kid reading comics for the very first time. I’m loving everything Mark Millar puts his name to at the moment, Wolverine, Fantastic Four and this have all been awesome and I’m really excited to see how all three tie together. In some ways I feel that this has been marvels real ‘event’ this year as these three books have all been outstanding and will eventually work as a crossover with reprecussions for the MU.

What really got me with this issue was the ‘Secret Wars’ factor. There have been nods to the series from issue one and the first double-paged spread with that eras heroes is pure Marvel porn. (I LOVE mohawk Storm and Captain Marvel). The ever-present threat of Galactus mirrors ‘Secret Wars’ and Clyde Wyncham works for me as a kind of Beyonder substitute. This is an out and out love letter to comics and was far better than I thought it was going to be. I can’t wait to see what Tommy Lee Edwards does next. 1985 has been beautifully Illustrated and coloured since the 1st issue.

Easily the pick of the week.
