MADAME XANADU #13

Review by: Quinn

Size: pages

Good lord, this book is beautiful.  Michael Wm. Kaluta is killing the art and Matt Wagner is turning in, month after month, one of the best books on the stands.

I don’t understand why more people don’t buy this book.  Do you not like excellent art?  Do you fear quality storytelling?  Is it the “hot girl on girl action” that keeps you away?  I would say “people don’t like comics with magic,” but people buy Hellblazer, and this is a far better comic than Hellblazer.

This must be what people who read Scalped feel like.  I mean, this comic is much better than Scalped, but this sense of desperation and disappointment for fellow comics readers, who are missing out on something great, this must be what they feel.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. This book is not Scalped by a longshot, Quinn.  That book is one of the most amazing comic runs I’ve ever seen.  This just hasn’t been, to be fair.  After this issue I’m beginning to think the masses may be right.  This book should be better than it is, the sum of the parts are less the originals.  I mean, even when you look at that cover, it’s intricate, beautiful, and yet sort of pedestrian and boring too…?  Xanadu herself still isn’t compelling, and I still don’t understand why I’m supposed to care so much about the murder that is central to the plot.
