  1. I think I’m the one you saw complaining about the ‘apology’ scene in the comments — I don’t have a problem seeing Logan as a character with layers, including a lot of insecurity.  I just questioned him actually saying what he said to this girl he just met.  Maybe if it had been handled in the narration, that would have worked better?  It doesn’t help that I just finished reading ‘Y: the Last Man’ — which is a great book! — but this scene struck me as similar to the way BKV writes his protagonist there, so it seemed more like the writer doing his insecure-male schtick than actually finding depths in this character.  i mean, Wolverine has pretty consistently been portrayed as a screwing his way around the world with an almost James Bond-like frequency, so I found this portrayal a bit off.

  2. I agree that he has usually been portrayed as kind of a man-whore if you will in the past but he has also had some serious love interests and relationships as well. And in these few instances his character usually shows a great deal of vulnerability and sensitivity. I think it depends on the writer, but I dig Vaughn’s interpretation even if he is just doing his "insecure male schtick".

I have been reading Y in trade thus far and loving it. However I haven’t finished the series yet and can’t wait to do so. I am also reading Ex Machina in trade which is awesome as well. Still looking to pick up his Dr. Strange mini-series.

    Thanks for your comments.

  3. I’m also a genuine BKV fan — I think I may have read everything he’s published, at this point, except for that same Dr. Strange series.  I’m just not convinced he has a great handle on Wolverine.

I did enjoy this book, nontheless; I think the art rocks and I’m interested to see how the story ends.

  4. @ohcaroline – Defintley pick up Dr. Strange – that book is aces for several reasons not is that BKV puts the "Doctor back in Doctor Strange. And Marcos Martin kicks some ass on those pencils.

  5. Cool!  I don’t know anything about Dr. Strange aside from "1602" and the bits of New Avengers I’ve read (and also, that wack-ass issue of Xmen where they go to Dante’s inferno, my GOD)   I’ll be on the lookout for the Vaughan book, as I really have liked everything I’ve read by him.

  6. I have always liked the idea of the Dr. Strange character but the only thing I have read is his mini series from when Marvel Knights started out all those years back. I don’t even remember what it was about or who did it. I will have to go back and read it again sometime.

I also recently picked up Dr. Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment HC that Mike Mignola did the art for back in 1989. It’s written by Roger Stern with inks and colors by Mark Badger. I haven’t read it yet but the art looks amazing flipping through it.

  7. This series is sick, so it’s good to read some love for it! It seems like most stuff I read is negative about it, before this review. So, I’m glad I’m not the only one who digs this mini.

Also, if you guys want some good Dr Strange, check out the "Strange" mini series by J. Michael Straczynski. It’s the origin story of Doc Strange, & it’s awesome.
