For whatever reason, The Light didn’t ship to any Boston stores (so, I’m guessing the rest of the east coast) last week.  I was bummed because I’ve enjoyed this series, and was looking forward to seeing how it ended.

Well, it ended.

No questions answered about the origins of the light, what it’s doing.  Just an endpoint in the lives of the characters that have inhabited this first story arc (don’t be fooled by the 5/5, there’s more on the way).  Whereas I really enjoyed the silence and the pacing of the first issue, I had anticipated at least a few reveals before the end of the series, or some sort of cataclysmic event.  I didn’t get it.

This wasn’t bad by any stretch.  As the first issue was good, and intrigued me for the rest of the arc, the arc has intrigued me for what the creators have in store.

The characters in this first arc were very two-dimensionally sci-fi, which is fine if the focus of the series is going to be on the event, but disappointing if the creators’ intent is to put the whole Light angle in the background, as Kirkman does with zombies in The Walking Dead.

IF you’re a fan of Templesmith’s art, you’ll probably enjoy Weldelle’s work.  It’s very similar in coloring and photoshop technique.  It’s not derivative, just similar.  And a perfect technique for telling this story.
