I’ll admit I’m not as big a Legion fan as many others out there. And let’s leave out the question of which Legion I like most. Let’s focus on this one… and this issue.

Levitz continues to write a solid Legion story, one that feels very much like a TV series in a lot of respects. But from time to time – including this time in particular – I feel like there’s just too much going on. We’re bouncing from place to place and character to character fast… maybe too fast. I never really felt fully engaged in any of the scenes and I definitely wanted to see more about the goings-on with Dragonwing. Some points were even a bit confusing because the transitions were so abrupt.

Not helping things was the art. Sorry, Francis Portella, but everyone looked pretty stiff and their heads were very mannequin-like, IMO. For example, Star Boy and Dream Girl’s romantic moment completely lacked tension. It was like two wooden puppets coming together. Blerg.

There’s a lot of good here. The characters are great and Levitz knows the Legion well. Maybe he’s not entirely used to the shorter page amounts he has to juggle so many characters. I don’t know. But if this Legion wants to live long, it’s going to need a little improvement all around.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor

  1. Just as a note on the rating: because of the issues I had with the book, I couldn’t quite rate it as “good.” But it was okay, hence the “average” rating.
