i started picking up this legion 12 issues ago, when shooter started; this was the final one, as the legion will be picked up once again in the upcoming adventure comics.

if you haven’t seen on the internet, this run was cut short, and jim shooter’s storyline wasn’t allowed to fully play out. the book certainly has felt that way over the past 2 or 3 issues, as some of the storylines never really got a satisfactory resolution (projectra going bad) and others seemed to get wrapped up rather quickly and easily (this whole “virtual alien” business). there was some fun sci-fi in this issue, and in how brainy and co. were able to take out a moderately-interesting threat. but overall, things just sort of stopped, rather than conclusively ending.

that said, it was still a fun run – i felt that shooter always did a good job keeping individual characters written differently (and there are a lot of them!), and in keeping the legion feeling like teenagers without being annoying – there was arguing, friendship, and saturn girl naked in a closet with ultra boy, and that’s what being a teenager is all about, right?

and most importantly, it showed that fracis manapul is a really damn good artist. this guy has a lot of style, and this book showed off his ability to draw unique characters and design interesting aliens and worlds and everything. he’s a creative guy, and i hope to see more from him in the future.

here’s hoping adventure comics is a big success. long live the legion!
