I’ve been reading this new Legion series in the hopes that Levitz could recapture some of the scope and adventure of his original run, but so far it’s been a struggle. The series has meandered around among various plot lines that seem to go nowhere. Individual issues I often find difficult to follow because of constant, very abrupt, scene shifts that lack supporting narrative context. This issue at least is a little more focused as it — I think — is supposed to wrap up the “Durlan Assassins” plot but if so I couldn’t really tell you what it was all about. I read this while on a particularly bouncy train ride and it was a little hard to concentrate, but even so I’m not sure it made a lot of sense.
If this series is going to improve, I feel like Levitz needs to take a step back and refocus his energy on telling smaller, self contained, stories, at least for a few issues. Because what he’s been doing so far just isn’t working.
