In a week that so many good comics came out, I couldn’t help adding this to my pile. I’ve been checking it out for the past couple of weeks and it finally charmed me out of my $5. It didn’t disappoint. This giant-sized issue is essentially 3 full stories in one.

First of all, this is not for the typical Spider-Man comic-book fan, and it says so right on the first page. It’s not a “real” Spider-man story in the BND continuum. THe first story, in fact, barely had Spider-Man in it (only for 7 panels, three of which he’s just climbing around on the ceiling). But it’s got its share of the Spidey-women in it, and they’re battling Enchantress… a Thor villain. Ah well, don’t worry about it, it’s lots of fun. And it’s drawn by Collen Coover, so, y’know, it’s great. Story 4/Art 5

The second story by Keith Giffen surprised me. I was expecting it to be a throwaway, but it was actually cool. Except that I felt like there was a page or two missing in the middle. Either that or a lot of stuff happened off screen. But it was a pretty good story with the Falcon (I didn’t even realize it was him at first) who teams up with Spidey to take down some bad dudes in Sam’s neighborhood. Story 4/Art 3

The last story was a mini Marvels story by Chris Giarrusso. It was longer than your typical mini Marvel and I was worried that it would fizzle. But its cute and hilarious. Pretty much any time mini-Venom is crying out for brains is good for me. Story & Art 4

So, this isn’t your typical Spider-man comic book. It’s something you could pass to kids, but it’s not just for kids. A good pickup.

  1. Colllleeeeeeeen  Coooooover!!!!

  2. Ain’t she great! Nice to see her doing a full-length story. I’m curious about her other work, but I think I’ll just stay curious for a little while.

  3. She does the backups in X-men First Class, which you might have seen.  Also, "Banana Sunday" is adorable.  I haven’t seen her adult stuff, so I don’t know if it’s in the same style/spirit.
