There’s no question that this title is a guilty pleasure for me. It’s a book I definitely can’t let my kids see. I’m not even that eager to share it with other people who may have a passing interest in comics. The fact is, Kick-Ass is not for the faint of heart. The title character isn’t cool, honest, honorable, or very competent. But it’s been fascinating to watch him, because he feels real. And now there’s something happening that’s not just the same story over again. It’s kind of sad and a little scary. Millar’s writing tends to be all gruff and in-your-face bravado, but recently he’s hit a groove where he’s writing characters that I care about. They’re not idealized, perfect people. They make wrong choices, they’re selfish, and they’re sometimes a little cowardly. You know, like most people. Oh and JRJr’s art… you know, it kicks ass!

Story: 4 - Very Good
