Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed this issue. However, after taking my reading glasses off (I’m 20 I don’t have reading glasses?) and I sat back I realized that this book is all frosting.

We’re 4 issues in and really nothing is happening. We’ve seen a series of brutal fight sequences that were indeed very cool and violent in the best way possible. However, we’re 4 issues in and we still have no idea as to how our hero ends up with jumper cables attached to his nuts like we saw in the first issue. This book is a lot of spectacle. A lot of really great spectacle but not a lot there. It’s too much frosting. Warm, bloody frosting.

This book wouldn’t be nearly as good if it weren’t for John Romita Jr’s amazing artwork. He really makes the book what it is in my opinion. I’m not sure this book would feel nearly as special without him.

I am enjoying this book and nowhere close to dropping it. I just wish that more of the big picture was unveiled at this point. I need more to grab onto and see where this book could be headed.

  1. Well, I love frosting. With this issue though, even if we had the same amount of violence and gay relationships that the last issue, and it didn’t serve anything but a badass new characters intro and a reason to make RomitaJR, wich makes the book what it is, I have to agree, draw a guy getting his skull crushed, I got a sense of story devellopment, with finally presenting the mobsters that could possibly be implicated to the electro-nuts case. Thats just me though. This series is definitly a lot of sweet frosting but I see it as it is, a fun, hilarious violent and gritty guily pleasure. Just like a big piece of cake.
