I keep on wanting to drop this book, but then i read it and realize just how great it is, and i just can't bring myself to do it.
For example this issue has more of the Gog twist in it, that the villain actually is a benevolent wish granting humanitarian and not the typical mad god with a world destructive streak in him. The thing i like most about this book though is the character. Gog spends a bit of time in this issue healing wounds in the massive cast that i didn't even notice much of the time.
Sure Starman was crazy, but it was funny so i didn't really think of that as a flaw in him, then he gets his sanity back. Mid night can see, Power Girl goes home. All these things are things that were just a part of the character, not a pleasant thing to have to deal with maybe but they seemed to be doing just that. The Gog comes and clears up that pain, and makes you realize just what these characters have been dealing with on a whole new level.
at the same time it does a great job of dealing with faith in a touching scene with Mr. Terrific. I am an agnostic, and sentements he shared on his lack of faith rang very true and were not at all preachy or condisending.
the last thing i want to praise is the end. For most of the book Gog has been sort of doopy. he always has this funny grin on his face like an overly pleased dog would have. then at the end he gets angry and he goes from harmless puss to mad dog and it has a very startling effect. Now i have to buy the next one. damn!

I’m one of those people who often talks about how confusing DC continuity is. However, reading this book and shows everyone that just because you have a lot of continuity doesn’t mean it isn’t accessible or enjoyable.
You get these great glimpses of each character and they have such a well defined voice. I can’t always remember the name of all these characters but you can feel who they are and it’s still a really fun book to read.

If you realise how great it is, why do ya wanna drop it?! 😛
