After all the hype about New Frontier (the book) and then anticipation of the DVD I read New Frontier and loved it. So, I was equally excited when I heard Darwin Cooke was returning to that world.
Overall, the book is great. The Batman-Superman fight story is amazing. Reading New Frontier, though, it never occurred that Wonder Woman brokered the truce between Batman and Superman. I always thought they came up with that idea on their own, but it fits with Wonder Woman's overall arc in New Frontier. I also thought it was interesting that, of the three stories, this was the only one that had a chapter heading, like the other parts of New Frontier. Almost a way of saying that this story should've been in the main story but, for one reason or another, was omitted.
The Robin-Kid Flash story was a lot of fun, but what was with Wally's last name? Wood???
I did not like the Wonder Woman-Black Canary story. It's an interesting premise, but the comedic tone of the story does not fit with the rest of New Frontier. J. Bone's art is also really awkward.
I dug the old style add Cooke snuck in.
I have to say, though, my absolute favorite part was the Rip Hunter intro. Hilarious. Also, I hate the whole 52 universe thing, and this was a big middle-finger to that whole concept. If you wanna tell a cool story out of continuity, then do so. It's dumb to have t literally create a new world for that story to exist in.
