Holy Good Lord Almighty... Ed Benes drew a female character whose breasts weren't larger than her head. (Blitzen, for those of you keeping score.) I'm really at a loss for words right now... True, it was only for a few panels, and I think he might have forgotten her measurements by the last page, but still... I'm stunned. If it wasn't for every other superheroine being true to form, I'd have to start worrying that the Secret Invasion had spilled over to the DC talent pool.
Oh, the story? Meh. I think we all know what we're getting from Justice League of America at this point. We have a generic, "uh oh, big brawl's a-comin'" issue. I don't know how long this story arc is going to last, but I'm forecasting the next issue is "big brawl happens" possibly stretching into two issues, followed by an issue of "misunderstanding and tables turning" and then wrapping it all up with a "successful team-up and return to status quo" issue.
This issue shows more promise than the last few arcs: the Injustice League/Sanctuary/Whatever the Hell That Vixen Trip Was About Arcs, but that's only because these Shadow Cabinet characters seemed to have a good rapport/interaction with one another. Which is much more than I can say for the JLA, who are all entirely one-dimensional. I get it... Batman's a jerk, Superman's a boy scout, Wonder Woman's a warrior, Black Lightning is an everyman, Red Arrow is a twenty-something, etc, etc.
This isn't a terrible comic, by any stretch, but it's certainly not going to blow your mind. If you've got an extra $3 to blow and want to see pretty faces get super-punched (and occasionally, I do), then Justice League of America is the book for you.
