I shouldn't like this book. Being relatively new to comic books (i've been reading a little over a year), my experience and knowledge of the JLI is pretty lacking and from what I've read before I found Booster kind of annoying. That being said, it has quickly become one of my favourite titles currently being published.
This issue dealt with the JLI (or not yet JLI but who knows what'll happen? I smell a new ongoing...) 's first physical encounter with Max Lord and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. Like I said, I'm not hugely knowledgeable about the JLI, but Winnicks writing really portrays how menacing Lord is incredibly efficiently and makes you understand that this guy is meant to be the ultimate asshole.
One other thing I really like is the character of Rocket Red, his 'bromance' with 'Little Skeets' was brilliant and let's face it, it's always funny to see people mess up our language.
The only thing I didn't really like was the art - it was mostly up to scratch, nothing AMAZING, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but some of it felt a little sparce, and a few times I found myself thinking that the faces didn't look right, but it's a minor gripe and nothing that'll hinder my enjoyment of this title. I'm definately seeing this one through to the end.
Thanks alot for reading,
- Doddsickle.
OH, one last thing, the summary of this issue says: "But can they locate Max while The Dark Knight himself is hot on their trail?" - What?! They didn't really have to locate Max, and there was NO sign of Ol' Bats...
