This was an interesting character study on Maxwell Lord. We rarely get to see what made super villains go bad, and it was refreshing to see that his evil was created by a real world situation…his father’s murder instead of some total comic book cop out origin story. I do wish the origin of his powers was a bit more clearly shown but I still came away satisfied.

I don’t know much about Max’s backstory so i don’t know if this fits into the continuity, but i really don’t care. In terms of this series, this issue works extremely well for me in explaining the motivations of a man so powerful, he can control the minds of an entire planet.

The art on the other hand didn’t quite cut it for me. The panels ranged from being average to just clumsy. Some of the facial expressions just looked super awkward…i suppose when the title is biweekly there has to be a give and take but i do feel that the quality could be much better.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
