This a decent read. I’m a little fuzzy as to everything that happened before so I should probably read through the previous issues.

I liked the story of this issue, the team fighting Dr. Destiny and his pink gem. I like how there’s little nuggets of the old Vertigo universe thrown in this series (which I can appreciate more because I’ve read the Books of Magic, the whole Sandman run, and a chuck of Hellblazer). Also cool how Swamp Thing appears here too (although in a way that was kinda like Swamp Thing #20). Like the cover suggests, Deadman and Madame Xanadu get the focus of this issue. I like how Deadman helps resolve the conflict, didn’t see it coming.

The art is very well done, looking like a gothic painting in some panels. I think I prefer Janin by himself on art but Vincente Cifuentes was really good on finishes and I thought he helped set the tone for this story. Maybe he could swing by on another story with demons or the end of the world.

I don’t know why people are complaining about Flash being in this arc. They’ve got to show that all these characters are in the same universe as the regular JL and that the New 52 is more connected. I dont know if he added alot to the overall story but I thought he was cool in the story regardless. I like to imagine Lemire was given the choice to have any JL character show up in this arc and he picked the Flash. I think he was pretty well written here.

Next month, Trinity War kicks off. This is the only book I’m buying that ties into it, so I’m not inconvenienced by the event. But I don’t know, reading this series and having it tie to TW kinda makes me want to read it.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
