They say write what you know, and John Byrne’s autobiographical take on a movie property(something he must just love doing), is a deep analysis and critical character study of a dinosaur lost in time and expiring with each passing moment and day. It’s really quite poetic and a self-affirming meditation that sees the artist, the writer, and the lover, write and draw a book with so much self-awareness about his days gone by. Quite Mccarthian, Melvillian, and Rooneian in it’s themes and structure. You almost forget that it is a Jurassic Park book but then you see the cover again and go “ohhh right” and the tale becomes all the more sad and wonderfully tragic.
But don’t take my word for it!
BA DA BA!
