This
is a very well drawn book.
The texture on the capes is probably the best example of super hero art I've seen in over a year. It reminded me a lot of John Cassady on Planetary. The look of the people, the way the rooms look, just beautiful. Hell, they even put in the Large Hadron Collider and it looked real and fitting.
As for the story? Some of the most cliche terrorist stuff ever written.
I know that religious zealots that want to blow up people aren't going to be that unique, but the stuff here just came off as lazy as any of those "ripped from the headlines" that Law and Order does 10 times a season.
This series seems to be focused on the chess match between Terrific and the leader of Kobra, but neither one seems to be that intelligent here or even that interesting.
I think the thing I hated the most was when the female escaped and they did that thing where the clean agent of Checkmate leans in see what's wrong and the evil agent has a gun to his face. It was unique when Michael Bay did it in the 90's, it is old and trite here.
Still, amazingly beautiful book
