I’ll take this, my first submitted user review, to champion a book that’s one foot out the door already. I watched this title start in Marvel NOW, didn’t jump on till after the first arc and now regret my hesitation as a long running series fades into the sunset while going out on a great story.

This book gets points first simply for style. From a title page that evokes a very specific sort of space opera vibe, to the rich vibrant colors, to the incredibly expressive faces of all the characters that convey so much of the story’s wit and charm, this is a beautiful book; and I’m definitely glad to have this one in physical form.

The story careens toward its conclusion, looming now as we know in next months final issue. The cosmic horror feel of the story is very neat, and Immonen’s ease with which she merges the mythical Asgardian straight into the cosmic fabric should serve as an example for anyone writing these characters.

However, the true strength of the book is the inter-character work. The parallel rants/dialogues between Sif and Beta Ray Bill are well written and with only two other characters in the book, the relationships are tight and intimate, and Immonen’s writing, combined with the genius facial expressions, again, truly reflects this. It feels like the characters are all very close and talk to each other like real people.

Overall, I hope Immonen gets another shot at similar characters going forward, this book is a sad promise that will never be fulfilled, but also a characterful and tight space action story that I would recommend to any fan of the Asgardians or Star Wars (just look at this beautiful book people!)
