Quite rightly, Jonah Hex doesn’t like child molesters, and this issue shows just what he does to them when he catches up with them. This is possibly the grisliest issue of Hex I’ve read in Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s run on the book; a brutal look at just how Jonah’s childhood traumas transformed him into a truly sadistic killer. The encounter with the molester is one of the most horrific displays of aggression Hex has ever inflicted on a man, to my mind; and the fact that a lot of it happens off panel makes the brutality feel all the more sinister. The art by Jordi Bernet is as beautiful as ever, combining the scratchy, cartoony pencils of a European master with a harsh Western filled with violence and horror. Bernet is easily the best Hex artist around, and every time he does an issue, it screams of perfection.
